Join us to start the New Year with a hands on sewing workshop for just four pairs of parents and young people led by the experienced sewing team from Repair Cafe Belfast. You'll each make a gorgeous upcycled totes bag to take away, learning your way around a sewing machine and some sewing basics on the way, so that you feel more confident tackling your own mending or upcycling projects at home. 

This class is suitable for beginners or those with some sewing experience. One ticket includes a parent and their young person. Due to no shows in previous events, there's a small charge to secure your spot and ensure we don't turn people away unnecessarily.  This workshop is heavily subsidised by funding from DAERA’s carrier bag levy. You are very welcome to add a donation to help us reach more people with sewing, mending and upcycling skills.

Join our monthly social Mending Pile Meet Up to transform a chore into a joy with good company, a hot cuppa, some tasty treats and our expert stitchers on hand if you need a little help or advice. 

Bring some mending you need to do and any sewing supplies you might like to use – though we’ll have some spares if needed. 

Mending Pile Meet ups are suitable for all level of experience. It’s not a class, workshop or repair café (where repairs might be done for you) – instead the focus is on supporting you to do your own clothing and textile repairs, helping each other and sharing our skills together, which is so much more satisfying! The perfect antidote to dark winters nights, you’ll be sew glad you came.

Hate it when jeans wear out in just one area, while the rest of the denim is going strong? This workshop will teach you how to save your favourite jeans, get months or years more wear from them and save the cost of buying new ones! Denim is a really intensive fabric to produce; by repairing and continuing to wear jeans for longer, you are taking a great step towards a more sustainable wardrobe! Once you learn the technique, you’ll be able to keep all your jeans in great shape from now on.

This workshop is open to all, though denim can be a tricky fabric to sew with for complete beginners. There will be a chance to explore both hand sewing and machine sewing techniques.

Bring a pair of jeans you would like to fix. All other materials and equipment will be provided.

Thanks to funding from DAERA’s carrier bag levy, we are able to offer these sessions at a low charge. If you are able, we would welcome any donations towards BTL so we can reach more people with these fantastic sustainable sewing skills.

Visible mending techniques can restore your favourite jumpers and socks, save them from moth nibbles, fraying cuffs and tears, and be an art form in its own right. Join Repair Cafe Belfast's fantastic sewing team to try your hand at darning, inspiration from fabulous projects they've completed (like these by Sue, pictured) and learn how to save your own favourite knits. 

This class is suitable for beginners or those with some experience. Bring a piece of knitwear you want to get started on - samples will also be available. Our skilled stitchers will take you step by step through how to make a bag, and you’ll make one to take home. Then you’ll be able to make whatever shapes, sizes and quantity you need to reduce waste, salvage lovely textiles and have gorgeously wrapped gifts for special occasions.
